Native Deodorant – Product Review
Raise your hand if you’ve tried a natural deodorant and been horribly disappointed. Anyone? I’m willing to admit that I’ve tried a slew of them, but I would not raise my hand, at least not while wearing most of them. Between the rashes from those formulated with too much baking soda (for my sensitive skin), and the odors from those that just didn’t cut it, I hadn’t had much luck. I’d been searching for a brand that would hold up to my morning Jillian Michael’s workouts, a stressful, busy day at work, and stay with me through our evening walks with Cody. I wanted something that kept me smelling fresh, feeling at least mostly dry, didn’t cause any irritation or unpleasant rashes (I have super sensitive skin), and was scented naturally, without migraine inducing fragrances. Did I mention I also wanted an aluminum free, paraben free, phthalate free, and gluten free formula too, one that might have a half decent EWG SkinDeep rating? I know, I’m picky and rather high maintenance. Owning my truth over here. I’d almost given up, returning for the summer to an old favorite chalked full of aluminum and endocrine disrupters but otherwise not so bad…I mean, it did only earn a “moderate hazard” rating over at EWG. Sigh.
Like many of you, I’m active on social media and can vouch for the progress made in target marketing–Facebook, Amazon, and Google know me (and my preferences) disturbingly well. I’d seen advertisements for Native Deodorant on many occasion but I kept scrolling, assuming it would be just like the others I’d tried, rather unsuccessfully, in the past. Then, my sister and I ran into Target on Friday to pick up a lamp I’d been eyeing for our family room and grab a few odds and ends–deodorant was on both of our short lists. As we meandered through the recently remodeled beauty section and over to the personal care aisles, we passed an end cap displaying a few Native Deodorants and we decided to take the plunge. She selected the Coconut & Vanilla and I chose the Lavender & Rose. Brooke is a personal trainer, coaches hockey, serves in a restaurant, and leads an otherwise active life, taking hikes in the Gorge, figure skating, and running around like a crazy person–she too needs a deodorant that works. Saturday morning, we both tried out our Native picks. Several hours later, she sent me a text to tell me “this deodorant is awesome.” I had completely forgotten I had tried it that morning. This meant one thing: success! No irritation driving me nuts, no damp shirts, no odor when reaching, it seems we finally have a winner. I had been going about my Saturday routine, running errands, rushing in an out of the car, braving the crowds at the grocery store, and meal prepping in the kitchen all afternoon…and I hadn’t experienced a single panicked moment of “crap, did I put on deodorant?” No need to reapply, no need to wash it off and pray for a quick recovery. This stuff is amazing.
Native deodorants check all of the boxes: they’re made in the USA, free from aluminum, gluten, parabens, and phthalates, and they work! Their EWG Skin Deep Score? Zero. I kid you not. It literally cannot get any better than that. If you’re sensitive to baking soda, they even offer a few sensitive formulations that are baking soda free as well. Without all of the usual junk, I wondered what the heck was in it. A quick read through the brand’s FAQ page made my heart even happier. Native deodorants are made with moisturizing and skin soothing ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, jojoba oil, and Vitamin E, and odor neutralizing, wetness absorbing ingredients like arrowroot powder and acidophilus (yes, that’s a probiotic, this stuff is that good).
Offering a wide variety of scent options, from unscented to eucalyptus & mint to pumpkin spice latte, there’s certainly something for everyone in the family to enjoy. But you don’t have to take my word for it. Visit Native Deodorant’s page to check it out for yourself. Click here to receive a free mini deodorant with your purchase 🙂
